One thing that I'm really interested in is drugs. Let me rephrase that. Having a good knowledge of drug and drug culture is good. That doesn't mean that I do whatever drug I can get my hands on. But its a good way to learn about culture and the effects it has on society. Before we invaded Afghanistan the Taliban regime had almost completely eliminated all the poppy fields around the country. After we invaded we thought that drug enforcement was a non-issue. It was England that suggested we do something about it. But we just gave them the brush off and continued hunting the Taliban. Well 2 years later and the poppy production was as high as ever. We finally came around and started to listen to the UK.
Earlier this year the Northern region of Afghanistan (Balkh Province) was declared poppy-free. So what have the farmers started growing to make money? Weed man. While it doesn't make as much money as poppy's, it does make more than most legal crops. If we could of started some sort of counteraction to the exploding poppy crops a few years back, we might of been able to figure are way to help these farmers out with out them having to grow illegal crops. It might have also greatly hurt the return of the Taliban who is making a strong comeback. It would have also taken a lot of money out of terrorists hands. But what do I know. I just like to get lit and watch 30 Rock.
