When I saw Radiohead last year at the Embarcadero they played about six new songs. It was not the right environment for new songs and you really couldn't get your ear around them. It happens most of the time when bands play new songs. Last night The Walkmen filled their set list with about 70% of new material. But not to fear, the next Walkmen album is going to be good. Most of the new stuff sounded great. They all seemed to be more direct than a lot of their previous albums. They played my favorite song among all the new stuff so I was happy. Best moment: During "No Christmas While I'm Talking" (you know the one that's pretty much just waves of sound) they make a little wall of noise and kept it for about two minutes. Hamilton (lead singer) disappears and were left wondering where he went. He runs back on stage with beers for everyone in hand. They have their priorities in order. Then as soon as he steps to the mic the song continues. It was very rock n roll.
See why I don't review shows too much here. Their not very good. But The Walkmen are. It was great to see them in a small venue like the Casbah. I saw Rosey from SD Dial In, so hopefully she post a review with pictures so you this will not be the only documentation of the show. Cause it's not really doing justice.
Fin.
