Last summer, 91x announced it's South By Southwest style music showcase. It had shows with the Killers, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and others. I was only able to get tickets to the Von Bondies show. I remember telling a friend that it would be great if Louis XIV opened the show. Low and behold a few days later they were announced as the openers. I had wanted to see Louis ever since I read in the SD Reader that Convoy had split and a new band was formed. Anyways, to make a long story short: Louis is great, and it's cool to see a local band blow up and make it somewhat big. Although I'm not too keen on them opening for the Killers, or even writing songs with them, I'm happy for their level of fame.
My friends like to call me an "elitist" or whatever other buzz word they use for people who don't like crap music. Sure I tend to diss acts a little to the extreme, but I really am cutting back. So it's wierd to see other people rip into a band that you love. A band that you have seen coming up through the ranks. Their was a great article in the this weeks CityBEAT. It's titled, "Attack on the King", and is about all the backlash that Louis in now encountering. It's very surreal to go to one of the many NYC blogs I frequent, and see them rip into Louis like they were a band that I used to rip into. Their really is no moral or lesson to this story (or maybe even point) but just an excuse to talk about Louis XIV.
