we get high in back seat circles

Finally! I have things to actually do. Veterans day took school away today which meant actually sleeping in on a Friday. Thanks to the Vets for past wars and all that jazz. While I have not supported this war from the beginning, I do respect someone who enter any service. But I must add that it's not the smartest thing I could think of doing. But to each his own. Back to things that I have to do. Jammie and I checked out Broken Social Scene @ The Henry Fonda up Los Angeles on Tuesday. Fiest opened up the show with her unique brand of folk/jazz/tribal whatever you want to call it. She was great and Jammie saw that I was smitten with her even after my attempts to cover it up. But she has Dr. Drew, so I get Fiest. We went on the floor for Broken Social Scene but Jammie could not see over sea of tall people. Being one of those tall people, I was reminded about how lucky I really am at show. We found a spot about 3 songs in and settled in. Their were at least 10 people on stage and at one point their were like 20 (even though about 10 of them were just their to clap for "Star & Stripes)

The songs sounded great and the new stuff sound good as well. I was unsure how the new songs would sound given the complex nature of the new one. My favorite song ("Almost Crimes") was off the chain to borrowa phrase from a friend. The show was never slow (well maybe a bit at the end) and with so many people on stage at once their was somthing to keep your mind occupied the whole time.

November has graced us with so many great shows. The summer concert season was not good for more than a few reasons. One being that their were not too many shows and secondly the lack of money which I had to buy tickets. But shit, November is making summer a fading memory. Broken Social Scene, Metric (which we all know sold out so no dice on that one), The Album Leaf, Spoon, and The Like (which is actually in early December) So this is turning out to be a great (and some what inexpensive) concert month. Tonight I'm seeing The Album Leaf with John and Essence. They were great borderline amazing in July.

Speaking of great things that are borderline amazing was Jarhead. Most critics that saw did not like it, but I thought it was great. Jake notgonnatryhislastnamegillenhall was good and Sam Mendes has some amazing shots in the desert. Many of my former Marine co-workers thought it portrayed the Iraq war (old and new) pretty well. Just alot of organized waiting. Lots and lots of it. I have been seeing plenty of movies lately. Weather Man, Thumbersucker, Shopgirl, and Good Night and Good Luck. While I refuse to write reviews because I can't write them I can tell you that GN and GL is my favorite movie of the year (so far) and that Shopgirl blew. I just can't seem to like Steve Martin. Can't wait for Walk the Line to open next week as well as Spoon @ Cane's on the same day. Good bye unsocial summer! Hello winter with all your openings and events!
